International Women’s Day 2021

March 8, 2021

March 8,1917 – Women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia. March 8 was adopted by the feminist movement circa 1967. The UN began celebrating the day in 1977.

The purpose as I understand it, is to celebrate women. To support and build each other up. To celebrate the progression of equal rights, and gender equality.

In some countries the official flower of Women’s Day is a Yellow Mimosa

The UN’s Theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”

Slacking

February 21, 2021

I just looked & saw when I posted last.. I didn’t think it was that long ago, but evidently it was..

I’ve been kinda … low…blue… I usually do after the holidays, but it rarely lasts longer… I’m slightly freaked out… I don’t think it’s ever reached March… *AND* I’ve been snacking my feelings away.. not a good way, cuz now my weight has crept up.. & after maintains my second weight-loss goal for several months, I’ve past that reward level.. I need to eat less & exercise more.

Yes, Virginia, You Can Get Heatstroke in the Winter

December 29, 2020
Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus.

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus.. While he is not a physical.person, but an ideology of a sort, he still exists as the Spirit or intention of Christmas.. And oddly enough so does heatstroke in the winter, the day after Christmas. Neither is a myth.

On Boxing Day (December 26th here in Canada) I was dropping off presents to friends. Did I stay,? Yes, but only for short, outdoor, social distanced, safe visits with masks handy. I knew I would be outside for a little bit, so I dressed for the weather.. It was just below freezing, so I was wearing a nice snuggly sweater & with my coat on I was nice & cozy outside..

After I got home, after a long day, and a long day on Christmas Day aswell, I was just exhausted. I took off my jeans and lay down for a nap.

I woke 1½hr later, nauseous & with a headache. Normally this is just my body telling me that I’m hungry because I haven’t eaten a lot during the day. Had a snack but halfway through, realized I was feeling flushed & warm.. A peek in the mirror told me what was going on.. My face was bright red..

I was still wearing my sweater! In my defense, it was a brand new sweater that I had never worn before and was not aware of how deceptively warm it is.. So I yanked off the sweater & my skin underneath was pink from the warmth..

Went to hop in the shower to warm up. My regular ‘hot’ setting I use for showers wasn’t the hot hot it normally felt like, but cooler. Since I wasn’t feeling temperatures like I should be, I set the water a smidge cooler before I hopped in… Bit by bit I turned the dial slowly down to cooler temperatures to slowly cool my body down. It took 20-30 minutes to start feeling like I was a normal temperature.. My colour was almost back to normal when the time I was all dried off.. After my shower, I simply crawled into bed to sleep it off…

I woke up a few hours later, without the nausea. So I ended up finally taking my nighttime meds because I didn’t want to risk taking them earlier and just chucking them up which is what I figured would happen..

The headache finally abetited a few hours later with some Excedrin…

Note: You can also get heatstroke from wearing too many layers outside & not taking them off as you warm up like when skiing..

Yes Virginia, You Can get Heatstroke in Winter

So, yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus, it’s not a myth . & Yes, Virginia, You can get Heatstroke in the Winter. Be careful

Happy 50th, Laura.

November 2, 2020

Today, Laura would have been 50 years old.

For those who don’t know the backstory, I’ve always called Laura my sister. Technically, she was my sister-in-law but I have known her since I was 12 or 13. We were also friends in our own right through soccer & field hockey.

Laura was a Toronto police officer recently returned from maternity leave. While responding to an emergency burglary call for an elderly woman, her vehicle was hit by a civilian. Her police cruiser spun, throwing her partner from the vehicle but wrapping her around a tree. The civilian was never charged with anything, not even failing to yield to the emergency vehicle.

Laura with Paige, only hours old.

A new mother, a caring sister, a supportive daughter, a good friend, a loving wife and a great police officer, her life was tragically cut short and we miss her. .

F.A.S.T. on World Stroke Day

October 29, 2020

This year World Stroke Day is today on Thursday October 29th. this is one of those medical conditions that I do not have but it’s still near and dear to my heart. One of my closest friends had a series of small strokes several years ago. If they hadn’t been dealt with they could have led to a major stroke which could have left us without him. He is doing relatively well, but still does still have some lingering residual effects from his strokes.

So given that today is World Stroke Day I thought it would be a good idea to reinforce the signs of a stroke – F.A.S.T.

Act F.A.S.T
Recognize the signs of stroke

F – Face. During a Stoke, commonly, the person will loose muscular function on one side of the body. This is easily seen in the face as it tends to droop. Ask the person to smile. If the normal smile does not immerge or is very lax, this is a sign of a stroke

A – Arms. Again, with muscular function impaired, one side of the body is significantly weaker. It the person is unable to raise both arms to the same hight easily, this is a sign of a stroke.

S – Speech. Slurred speech, the ability to talk is a result of the weakened musculature in the face. The inability to use correct words or understand others around is disconcerting. Both of these situations are signs of a stroke.

T – Time. Time to call 911. Every second counts with Simone having stroke. If they are unable to relieve the pressure, permanent damage, serious permanent damage, even death can occur. So, even if you are not sure, better safe than sorry.

Positivity at the Cottage

October 16, 2020

My parents have a cottage up NE of Peterborough Ontario. Their shore line is comprised of layered stones both above & below the dock.

This summer I got a brilliant idea for the week I had the cottage to myself. I decided to paint these rocks. My Cubs had gotten me started on painting rocks this summer. I found it so relaxing – therapeutic even… But these ones are a little different, I didn’t paint the full rock, I just added a word to each stone. With a good selection of colours, it’s quite pretty..

The left side of the dock. Yes, there are spelling errors that have since been corrected.

I apparently can’t spell or my Fibro Fog kicked in while I was there. I am aware of several spelling errors on these rocks. I went back up recently & corrected all mistakes I am aware of. Was unable to really add much as the dock has been pulled in for the summer..

The stones do have a sealer on them, so hopefully the will last to next year. If not I can redo them. But if I get additional words of positivity & inspiration I can start filling in the other side, as this in only half the wall. The other half is to the right, right of the stairs.

Do you have suggestions for additional words I can use? I know Justice isn’t there yet.. anything else??

I also did completely cover some of the rocks around the firepit before I added words…

Pretty rocks in the firepit

Online Dating Profiles – Tips for Guys

September 29, 2020

I know.. it’s got nothing to do with fibro, or health, but it’s my blog so I can pick the occasional off topic.

So.. Tips for Guys in their online dating profiles… I think unless you are in a hardcore fetish site or a site exclusively for hookups only, I think these suggestions might help you get a better response from the ladies.. or laddie’s, if you swing that way…

Have a Good Profile picture:

  • Picture of you, your face, not your dog, your bike, your fish, your boat or your genitalia.
  • Smile!!! Unless you a totally serious person.. Have at least one photo of you with an honest smile on your face.
  • Make sure you are the focal point of the picture. The point is to see you, not the statue or whatnot you are standing beside. & Loose the mask so we can see your face & also be cognizant of the light and shadows they cast
  • Picture of only you, no other people. You can put picture of you with your kid(s), your family, your friends elsewhere in your profile, just not the main one
  • No pictures with blanked out faces. Just crop the other person out, or use a different picture
  • Make sure it’s in focus and check the lighting to make sure your face can be seen.
  • Keep the background simple, unless it is highly relevant to you. & No taking your pictures in the damn car – be original! Try to blur out any busy backgrounds if you can
  • Don’t add any filters to your image..Don’t need to bling it up
  • Keep your images current, especially if your look changes..
  • Do not use memes as your first few images,
  • Don’t use the picture from work, be it an ID badge, business card or a professional marketing materials. Most of these are too posed & too stiff to represent you well in this medium.. & for ID badges, nthose are not typically a complimentary picture
  • Brush your hair, put on something nice if you are going to take a selfie & taking from straight on or better slightly above, but not beliw
  • Dont use an Avatar for your user image, and doing be someone that’s not you, esp a celeb.. If you are not Shemar Moore’s twin, don’t use his picture.
  • Include multiple pictures.. The second & third & fourth can include your kids or your dog.. but skip the one where your sister is giving you a high – first question is always – Who is she? His wife?.
  • Do not use the same picture more than once
  • Only use a “dick pic” if you are on a hookup site & that’s what you are looking for.

Add actual profile content.. it does not have to be long only 3-4 sentences to start… And you can add more later.

  • Write *Something* Don’t just leave it blank
  • Describe what you a looking for be it a hookup, a fwb, a dating partner or something long-term & permanent..
  • Describe what you’re looking for in someone. Be upfront. If you don’t like Asian Women, say so. If you don’t like Smokers, say so. If you want someone 420 friendly then say so.
  • Tell us about you – character traits & descriptive words that might help: Funny, sarcastic, confident, laid-back, determined, passionate, ambitious, kind, outgoing, shy, outdoorsy, homebody, animal lover, thrifty, open-minded, politically savvy, honest, honourable, adaptable, Raptors fan, imaginative, creative, spontaneous, happy, friendly, movie liver, compassionate, loyal, humble, meticulous, picky, assertive, sports enthusiast, reliable, sociable, enthusiastic, meticulous, generous, curious, clean, tidy, healthy, charming, brilliant, courageous, artistic, dramatic, playful, creative, principled, honourable, organized, scatterbrained, disciplined, affectionate, faithful, private, extreme, unique, sincere, reserved & shy vs affable & gregarious, talkative or quiet, adventurous, hardworking, Liberal vs Conservative vs Socialist, strong-willed, respectful, blunt, democratic, self-sufficient, wise, smart, sexy, vain, modern VA old fashioned, physical, hedonistic, money-driven, delicate, opinionated, predatory, zany, sassy …That’s a good list to help you out
  • Answer some of the questions different sites ask.. “What can you cook? What TV shows do you watch?
  • Be clear & concise. Be aware of spelling, punctuation & grammar..
  • The more you complete of your profile, generally also means the more accurate your matches are..

Do not have multiple profiles.. I’ve come across the same guy in 3 different profiles.. I blocked all.three cuz he’s not a twin or a ltriple.

Any other suggestions? For guys, or ideas for gals aswell – I could always new tips!
